Precept 2016-17

posted 25 Feb 2016, 08:58 by Robert Cowley

2016 should be a special year for South Cerney, with the building of our new Youth and Community Centre.  The cost of designing and building the hall is being met by Redrow Homes, as one of their ‘Section 106’ obligations under the planning permission for the new homes they are building.  However, the cost of furnishing the building will need to be met by the Parish Council, and so the Council has decided to increase this year’s Council Tax precept to cover some of that cost.

The Parish Council is also embarking on a Neighbourhood Development Plan for the Parish, to give us real influence on some planning issues and aspects of future development within our community.  That process will also involve some additional expenditure.

The Parish Council’s largest item of annual expenditure is the cost of cutting the grass on our playing fields and verges.  The spells of mild weather have lengthened the growing season, resulting in increased costs for grass cutting.

These increased costs will be shared amongst the larger number of houses in the village.  The percentage increase for a Band ‘D’ dwelling will be around 12% - just over 12p per week.
