Thames Water Pumping Station at The Limes

posted 9 Jan 2016, 02:10 by Robert Cowley

Following sewer flooding in parts of our village in 2013 and 2014, Thames Water has installed a set of valves in Station Road (near The Limes) so that the gravity sewer system in Station Road can be connected to the old main sewer that still runs to the Shorncote sewage treatment works.   Due to the current high water levels, Thames Water has now installed a pump so that some of the excess wastewater in the gravity system can be pumped directly to Shorncote.  This reduces the volume of wastewater from this area that would otherwise go to Shorncote via the main pumping station in Robert Franklin Way.

Thames Water will inspect the site daily, and will keep the pump on site for as long as required.  It can operate on a 24/7 basis, and automatically activates as and when required.

The pump and hoses will be removed when Thames Water consider it safe to do so.  In the meantime, hopefully there should be very little noise from the site.
