South Cerney Compost Club Will you use the community composting scheme? We are setting up a composting scheme in South Cerney, and need to gauge the full level of interest. Local composting of garden waste reduces the ‘greenhouse gases’ arising from transportation and processing. Community compost schemes produce local compost for gardens and allotments, and also reduce the use of peat-based products, helping to protect precious habitats. The CDC kerbside bins will divert organic waste away from landfill sites, but the most environmentally-friendly way is local composting. If you have too much garden waste to compost it all at home, the next best thing is to join a community compost club. Our scheme might even save you money: you would have a share of the community compost, and could use the club instead of paying £30 for the CDC green wheelie-bin service. A community compost scheme cannot accept kitchen waste; peelings and other uncooked organic kitchen waste should be composted at home. If you might like to join South Cerney Compost Club, and perhaps even get involved in running it, please complete the questionnaire in Cerney News. Please return your answers to the green Compost Club letter-box opposite the Post Office. Alternatively, you can complete the questionnaire online:- http://www.southcerney.org.uk/compostclub If you return your questionnaire before 1st August, you will be entered in the draw for free life-membership of the Compost Club!
